About Me
The Ladies’ Dressmaker was born from a desire to provide quality clothing for living historians that is both affordable and accurate. I have been an avid history buff for most of my life. As a child, I was always fascinated with Little House on the Prairie and Laura Ingalls Wilder as well as the lives of others who lived during the mid – 19th century. I read any and everything I could get my hands on that was about the 19th century. It was my late Aunt Helen who taught me to sew at a young age and I discovered I really enjoyed creating new things. As a teenager, I purchased a sewing machine with babysitting money and started sewing at home! Early on, I sewed clothing for my dolls, then my now grown children. Today I sew historically accurate clothing for the grandbabies! It’s easy to combine sewing with my passion for history by creating Civil War clothing for my family and for others. I began reenacting in 1998 after have been bitten by the ‘reenacting bug’ at the Jackson, Michigan Civil War Muster while visiting with friends and have been participating ever since!
Creating affordable authentic clothing for others is the goal of my business. Researching the garment you desire is as important to me as the construction details. I strive to produce the garments of your dreams and my goal is your complete satisfaction with your new creation. Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have!
